High-Performance ASC Bricks

ASC Bricks, short for Al₂O₃-SiC-C Brick, are a key refractory material used in high-temperature industries. They are composed of three core components: alumina (Al₂O₃), silicon carbide (SiC), and carbon (C), hence the name “ASC”.

Composition and Structure: The matrix of ASC bricks uses high-alumina bauxite or corundum as aggregate, incorporating fine silicon carbide powder and carbon sources such as graphite/carbon black, and adding antioxidants such as metallic silicon and aluminum. This combination gives them the high-temperature resistance of ceramics, the erosion resistance of silicon carbide, and the non-wetting properties of carbon.

Superior Performance:

Slag Erosion Resistance: Carbon and silicon carbide prevent molten slag penetration, significantly resisting the chemical erosion of molten iron and steel slag.

Thermal Shock Resistance: High thermal conductivity (contributed by graphite) and a low coefficient of thermal expansion allow them to withstand drastic temperature changes without cracking.

Antioxidant and Wear Resistance: Added antioxidants form a dense protective layer, while silicon carbide increases surface hardness and resists erosion from molten iron flow.

Main Applications: ASC bricks are widely used in iron pretreatment equipment in steelmaking processes:

Liners for torpedo ladles, mixing cars, and molten iron ladles.

Vulnerable parts of blast furnace tapping troughs, converters, electric furnaces, and other thermal kilns.

It can significantly extend equipment life and reduce maintenance frequency.
