What Is Slide Gate?

Refractory slide gate bricks, also called sliding gate plates, are essential functional refractory materials in modern steel metallurgy. They are mainly used in ladle and tundish sliding gate systems to control the flow and direction of molten steel during steelmaking and continuous casting. Manufactured from high-purity fused alumina, magnesia-carbon, zirconia, and other special refractories, slide gate bricks provide excellent high-temperature resistance, thermal shock stability, erosion resistance, and oxidation resistance. They can reliably operate above 1600 °C, ensuring tight sealing, safe operation, and preventing molten steel leakage.

In continuous casting tundishes, they allow single- or multi-stream casting, providing precise control of molten steel flow, reducing secondary oxidation, and improving billet surface quality and internal density. They are also applied in non-ferrous metal smelting furnaces, vacuum treatment systems, and other high-temperature equipment, extending service life and improving operational stability.
