Ladle Covering Agent

What is Ladle Covering Agents:

Ladle covering agents are functional materials used to cover the molten steel surface in ladles during steelmaking, with core functions including:

Thermal insulation: Reducing heat loss to maintain pouring temperature stability;
Anti-oxidation: Isolating air to prevent secondary oxidation of molten steel;
Inclusion adsorption: Purifying molten steel through slag-metal interface reactions;
Impact buffering: Mitigating splashing and slag entrainment during steel pouring.

Typical Components of Ladle Covering Agents:

Their typical components are dominated by Al₂O₃, SiO₂, and CaO, supplemented with heating agents (e.g., Al powder) and lightweight thermal insulation materials (e.g., float beads).

Classified by function of Ladle Covering Agents:

Heat-generating type: Compensates for temperature loss via exothermic reactions, suitable for long-time casting or low-temperature steel grades;
Insulating type: Uses low thermal conductivity materials as the matrix, focusing on heat preservation with lower costs;
Composite type: Integrates both heat generation and insulation, adapting to complex process requirements.
Performance requirements: Melting point <1200°C, low viscosity, basicity (CaO/SiO₂) 1.0–1.5, and rapid slag formation capability.
