Guidelines for Refractory Configuration of New Lime Kilns

The typical refractory materials required for different zones of a lime kiln are as follows:

Material Selection Principles

  • High-temperature burning zone → Magnesia-based refractories (magnesia-hercynite, magnesia bricks)

  • Medium-temperature transition zone → High alumina bricks, magnesia-alumina spinel bricks

  • Low-temperature preheating / cooling zone → Fireclay bricks + insulation materials

  • Backup insulation layers → Lightweight insulation bricks, ceramic fiber products
